Facts: the driver was way over the legal BAC limit. And stoned. She killed herself and those passengers. And now, we the taxpayers have to pay this and take money from schools etc. Cardoza: please wake up and do not transfer responsibility from a drunk and stoned driver to the State. First of all, you should research what you claim to be "facts" on this issue. Denise Callo may have been intoxicated, but she did not get intoxicated wth the passengers of the car. James Makekau who also lost his life on that tragic day had no alcohol in his system. There was also no evidence of recent use of marijuana for James Makekau. If you would research the FACTS of this case, you would understand that the rock wall which holds that area up on that cliff actually gave way underneath the weight of the car. Had the area been inspected over the past 55 years (!) the State would have seen a huge safety issue. The State had a very faulty defense, where officers of the law did not document information correctly, and even admitted that they did not conduct the investigation very thoroughly. The state's primary Traffic Investigator based his whole conclusion on a set of "tire marks" (that were admitted as evidence, but were never documented or recorded) that were later found to be about 25% too narrow to belong to the car in question. The state is liable to keep our roadways safe and address any safety issues as they occur. They failed horribly to do so. So instead of bashing the peole in the car, and the countless family members and friends who continue to mourn for them, maybe you should look into the State's practices and see what should be fixed there!

Get Oprah a radiation detector and test the soil. Maybe she could FINALLY be the one to OPENLY find out what effects Fukushima is having on Hawaii, West Coast and really the world. I would think she was smart enough not to buy land that has contaminated radioactive soil that she will be growing all her vegetables in. If USDA Organic is tested for radiation, I don't know how much is allowed. Now... "What you see...is not the only thing you get"

Not only is sunblock toxic to the coral, it's toxic to humans as well. There is a brand of sunscreen that is non toxic to human and marine life, I often wonder why the resorts and activities crews don't promote or require it's use. I personally don't use sunscreen as I don't believe the hype about sun and cancer.
And for the tourists who stand on the coral...It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't shoot you a dirty look and ignore you when you tell them they should not be standing on it.

Dummy's if you guy's would look into Hawaii history Honu was eatin and was part of our diet.And if you was so worried about Honu you would be grumbling to all the hotels for years of Polluting the ocean by run off off pesticides and the chlorine from there pools not counting all the sunscreen that goes in the water thats why the Honu now have tumors growing on them so whats worse killing forf dinner or killing for profits WAKE THE F^(k UP !!!!!

It would be nice to have people who are a bit more informed and less juvenile in their presentation cover someone of the caliber of David Icke. This was painful to read and full of misinformation. Not to mention it casts aspersions on "the locals". But so clouded with disrespect and entitlement as the article is, I suppose we are to believe Mr. Yagi expects even the "bumpkin" locals, to suffer his misinformed scorn...

Sounds like a pretty simple request. Cannon's letter smells less like an answer and more like stalling.

As much as I would like to see a more high fashion side to Maui
We do live on an island, this years issue was fun and very... Maui style
